A Tip For Today
Our big thing is intensity.  "Be more impressed with intensity, not volume." ~Greg Glassman
But why?  Why not hour long workouts or miles of running?  The science can be explained by evaluating your heart rate, your VO2 max, etc.  The easiest way to explain it is this, the harder you push, the more fat that your burn.  By doing high intensity workouts, you could be in a fat burning state for up to two hours after a five minute sprint like Fran.  If you go out for a long slow run, that fat burning state could only last for 20 minutes.
